Mega Millions Jackpot 10th Largest In History
The $5 era of Mega Millions is starting to bear fruit, as Friday night’s drawing is for an estimated $672 million

Friday is National Lottery Day, which does not result in a day off work but may result in a lifetime off work if you happen to win the night’s Mega Millions drawing.
Things are getting hot in the Mega Millions streets, as this will be the 35th drawing since the last time a winner was crowned back on St. Patrick’s Day.
As a result, the estimated jackpot has hit $672 million, which — if won Friday — would be the 10th-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.
Tuesday’s drawing — numbers 2, 4, 10, 48, 56, and a gold Mega Ball of 22 — obviously didn’t grant anyone a nine-figure haul, but there were a handful of seven-figure winners.
A Florida ticket-buyer won $2 million, a New Jersey lucky duck won $3 million, and a Georgia player won $4 million, all by matching the five white balls. Each ticket comes with a random multiplier up to 10x, hence the difference in prize totals.
In any case, not a bad Tuesday for those three.
Lottery Geeks estimates some 8.5 million tickets were sold for Tuesday’s drawing.
Powering along
While Mega Millions is out there setting records, Powerball is running side-by-side, as Saturday’s drawing — the 33rd since the last time someone took down the top prize, back on May 2 — is for $526 million.
Nobody won Wednesday’s drawing — numbers 2, 7, 18, 29, 38, and a red Powerball of 16 — but one Louisiana ticket-buyer matched all five white balls and bought the Power Play option, resulting in a $2 million haul.
Lottery Geeks estimates 11.3 million tickets were sold for the last go-round.
Both Powerball and Mega Millions are legal in all states except Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. Tickets for both draw games are also sold in Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In Puerto Rico, customers can buy tickets for Powerball, but not for Mega Millions.
