Frequently Asked Questions

What are the top concerns for Colorado Lottery players? Below is a list of their common questions and answers.

What happens if I lose my lottery ticket?

Unfortunately, you can’t replace a lost Colorado Lottery ticket. To be safe, write your address at the back of your ticket and sign your name. No one else can use it bearing this information. You can’t claim a prize unless you present the winning ticket. The Lottery only accepts one signature.

When should I purchase my lottery tickets?

Tickets for Mega Millions, Powerball, Colorado Lotto+, Lucky for Life, Pick 3, and Cash 5 are available Monday through Saturday from 4:30 AM. You can also purchase them on Sunday from 8:00 AM.

Can I cancel my ticket after purchase?

Yes and no. You can’t cancel tickets for Mega Millions, Powerball, Lucky for Life, Cash 5 with EZ Match, and Colorado Lotto+. Colorado Lottery allows you to revoke Pick 3 and Cash 5 tickets within one hour of purchase. This cancellation should happen before the lottery system shuts off or the store closes, whichever comes first. You can only cancel a ticket at its purchase terminal.

What if I want to claim my prize through a trust?

The Colorado Lottery doesn’t acknowledge corporations, trusts, or partnerships as lottery winners. It only awards prizes to individuals, after which you can open your preferred organization.

Can I maintain anonymity when claiming a prize?

No, not according to the Colorado Open Records Act. The law mandates the Colorado Lottery to publicize your first name, your last initial, the game you played, the amount won, and your hometown. This information is also open to the media. Capturing your photo is optional.

What if I die before exhausting my annuity payments?

Annuity payments continue as scheduled even after a winner’s death. The Colorado Lottery pays them to the player’s estate or designated beneficiary.
