Bodycam footage released from James Farthing’s post-jackpot arrest in Florida

When it comes to one of wildest, weirdest lottery stories of recent years, there’s now very little left to the imagination.
James Shannon Farthing of Georgetown, Kentucky, who along with his mother, Linda Grizzle, split a $167.3 million Powerball jackpot for the April 26 drawing, claimed the prize on April 28. On April 30, Farthing was arrested in St. Pete Beach, Florida, on one felony count of battery on a law enforcement officer and two misdemeanor counts of battery and resisting an officer.
And now the public has access to the police bodycam footage released Wednesday to see exactly what went down.
Let’s check the replay …
The story went that an intoxicated Farthing, spending some of his newfound cash on a trip to Florida with his girlfriend, Jacqueline Fightmaster — yes, that’s really her name — got into a fist fight with another guest at TradeWinds Resort, kicked a Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputy in the face, attempted to flee, and was caught and arrested.
Now the details can mostly be confirmed thanks to 43 seconds of bodycam footage.
It begins with a man — presumably the other guest with whom Farthing was fighting — grabbing a shirtless Farthing in a chokehold and tackling him from behind. When the other man releases Farthing, police try to apprehend the other man. The sound finally kicks in nine seconds into the video, with the other man saying, “Are you kidding me?”
We then see Farthing kick someone with his right foot, followed a few seconds later by the deputy saying, “I just got kicked.”
The video then cuts, and when it resumes, there are taser guns aimed at the heavily tattooed Farthing. “Put your hands behind your back right f***ing now!” an officer yells. Farthing places his hands behind his head, appearing very far from sober. “Put your hands behind your back and get against the f***ing wall!” the officer shouts.
Farthing then stumbles along the wall, pauses for a second, and takes off running, at which point the tasers start clicking. Farthing doesn’t go down, though — until he runs into the arms of another officer, who executes a clean waist tackle.
The video ends as Farthing, lying prone on the ground, is getting cuffed.
Farthing initially pled not guilty, but in June, he stopped fighting the charges, waived his right to hearings, and decided to serve out his sentence, which is expected to end Nov. 4.
Fightmaster was charged with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, and she cannot be seen on the bodycam video.
