Powerball Jackpot Hits $1.1 Billion For Monday Night Drawing

It will be a jolly holiday season for whoever eventually wins this jackpot, currently sixth largest in Powerball history

      And here we go.

Monday night’s Powerball drawing — the 43rd since the last time a winner was crowned on Sept. 6 by two tickets in Missouri and Texas that split a $1.787 billion prize — will be for an estimated $1.1 billion after nobody took home the whole hog Saturday night.

There was however, plenty of bacon handed out, as a pair of ticket buyers — one in North Carolina, the other in Pennsylvania — matched all five white balls. Each also bought the Power Play option, meaning each ticket is worth $2 million.

Meanwhile, five other customers matched all five white balls for a $1 million payout each. Those tickets were sold in California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, and Virginia.

Saturday’s numbers were 1, 28, 31, 57, 58, and red Powerball 16, and Lottery Geeks estimates more than 75 million tickets were sold for Saturday night’s drawing.

“This jackpot streak is bringing people together to dream big during this festive time of year,” Matt Strawn, Powerball product group chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, said in a statement. “Please play responsibly.”

The lump sum payout should someone win Monday night and choose that option would be for $503.4 million.

This is currently the sixth largest jackpot in Powerball history.

      Mega wha?

Mega Millions’ top prize is certainly lagging behind right now, as Tuesday’s drawing will be for $80 million.

      Friday’s numbers were 10, 50, 55, 58, 59, and a gold Mega Ball of 5.

Nobody matched all five white balls, and Lottery Geeks estimates 5.9 million tickets were sold.

Tickets for Mega Millions cost $5, and Powerball tickets cost $2. Most states offer the multiplier option for Powerball, which impacts any prize won except the jackpot, for an additional $1. Mega Millions comes with an automatic multiplier for any prize except the jackpot.

Both Powerball and Mega Millions are legal in all states except Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. Tickets for both draw games are also sold in Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In Puerto Rico, customers can buy tickets for Powerball, but not for Mega Millions.
