It took a little less than two months, but the $983 million Mega Millions jackpot winner from the Nov. 14 drawing came forward this week to collect their prize.
The winner — who hails from Georgia and who has chosen to remain anonymous — took the cash option, which comes to $453.6 million. This is the biggest jackpot win in Georgia history.
“We are thrilled to celebrate Georgia’s record-breaking jackpot winner and their life-changing start to the new year,” Gretchen Corbin, the Georgia Lottery Corporation president and CEO, said in a statement. “This historic jackpot was also significant for Georgia’s students, families and communities who benefit from HOPE and Pre-K. We congratulate our winner and appreciate the support of our players and retail partners during this exciting jackpot run.”
The winner said they play the lottery regularly, and were understandably shocked and surprised to see they held the winning ticket.
Good for Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous, whoever they are.
Now, let’s hope one of us can get so lucky this weekend, as the Powerball jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is up to an estimated $124 million after nobody won Wednesday night’s draw.
The numbers Wednesday were 15, 28, 57, 58, 63, and a red Powerball of 23.
One Delaware ticket-buyer not only matched all five white balls, but they bought the Power Play ticket option and 2x-ed their winnings, taking home a cool $2 million.
Lottery Geeks estimates 10.4 million tickets were sold for Wednesday night’s drawing.

The Mega Millions jackpot train keeps a-rollin’ for Friday night’s drawing, with the top prize now at an estimated $199 million after Tuesday’s drawing came up empty.
Those numbers were 9, 39, 47, 58, 68, and a gold Mega Ball of 24. A lucky ticket-buyer in Missouri hit all five white balls along with a 3x Megaplier for a $3 million haul.
Lottery Geeks estimates 5.7 million tickets were sold for Tuesday’s drawing.
Tickets for Mega Millions cost $5, and Powerball tickets cost $2. Most states offer the multiplier option for Powerball, which impacts any prize won except the jackpot, for an additional $1. Mega Millions comes with an automatic multiplier for any prize except the jackpot.
Both Powerball and Mega Millions are legal in all states except Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. Tickets for both draw games are also sold in Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In Puerto Rico, customers can buy tickets for Powerball, but not for Mega Millions.
