The launch of Team USA is very purposefully timed, as the Summer Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled to commence next Friday, July 26.

Online gaming provider 916 Gaming has partnered with EQL Games to launch a new “Team USA” iLottery game, exclusively available on the Virginia Lottery website and mobile app.

Themed around the Olympic and Paralympic Games, players can choose from three sports to participate in, including track and field, archery, and gymnastics. Each event offers the chance to win up to $300,000, with betting options ranging from $0.10 up to $20. All three games also offer the potential for boosted rewards with random multipliers ranging from 2x up to 50x.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Virginia Lottery and EQL Games to bring the Team USA game to players across Virginia,” said Steven Astrachan, co-founder and CEO of 916 Gaming, in a news release. “This game combines the excitement of sports with the thrill of lottery play, offering our players a unique and entertaining way to experience the Olympic and Paralympic Games and potentially win exciting prizes.”

Did you know, Virginia Lottery players won a whopping $3.8 BILLION in prizes in 2023?! Now in 2024, only halfway through the year, players have already won a total of $2.1 BILLION! How high will this year's total be?! #LotteryWeek pic.twitter.com/iUawucBXaA

The games operate with Random Number Generator (RNG) technology determining the athlete’s performance. To win a prize playing archery, the archer must shoot three of their nine arrows in the same color band. In gymnastics, players select three moves for their gymnast, winning prizes if their selected moves match those that appear on the judges’ scorecards. The 100-meter hurdles game has players’ runners clearing colored hurdles to win prizes, with multipliers awarded based on the player’s finishing position.

The launch of Team USA is very purposefully timed, as the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled to commence next Friday, July 26, and will continue until Aug. 11.

Following that, the Paralympics will take place in the French capital from Aug. 28 through Sept. 8. It is anticipated that approximately 1 billion individuals worldwide will tune in to watch the event, with 326,000 people attending in person.

“The opportunity to offer games that align with the start of the Olympics and Paralympics only happens every two years, and the Lottery saw this as a great chance to engage with fans,” added Scott Kenyon, Virginia Lottery director of marketing. “EQL and 916 Gaming have created fantastic games that our players can enjoy as they cheer on Team USA athletes.”

The Virginia Lottery first launched its iLottery platform in 2020, allowing players to engage in online games like Team USA, Diner Dollars, Western Wins, and others. Implementing an iLottery platform can potentially increase tax revenues for the state and in-person lottery sales, as argued by Ohio representatives earlier this week as they seek to legalize iGaming and iLottery in the state.
